Tagging Along

Today, instead of heading to work at the quilt shop

I headed to the Twins Cities with some friends.

We had business to take care of.

Something that needed to be done.

Three of my guy friends have started a band.

My wonderful sister Hannah was enlisted to take their band photos.

One of my girlfriends was the wardrobe coordinator

and…I was the driver….

Amazingly it went off without a hitch…..

We got there and back safe and sound,

All three band members clothing coordinated (with some help from us….and not with out much laughter I might add)

Hannah got tons of pictures.(we actually based when we should stop by how many pictures she had taken…..it ended up being around 300)

All in all it was a good day….all of us enjoyed ourselves…..and I know for myself personally we were able set aside a lot of time for good old fashioned laughter. πŸ™‚

One Little Step at a Time

I was able to work on my Amazon Star again last night.

For some reason I didn’t get overwhelmed. I think it helped to just think about the quilt step by step and not think of how long and how many tears I might shed over this quilt.

Every day life is a lot like that. If we start thinking about how much we have to do today, this week, this month we can get totally overwhelmed and not even have the will power to get through today. I am so glad Jesus told us to not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Jesus is able to handle whats gonna happen tomorrow….or even in the next hour.

So last night I just focused on what I could work on during the time that I had.

And guess what? I got all the washing done, and all the paper piecing templates are cut out! I even got to spend awesome time with the family and get a bike ride in. πŸ™‚

Oh and yes..all the ironing is done too…..the fabric is all pressed and folded ready to be cut out. πŸ™‚

Teaching Time!!

Yesterday I was able to get some sewing time in.

No, I didn’t work on my Amazon Star.

And actually I didn’t really even get to sew. Lets say I was sewing vicariously. Isn’t that what teaching is all about anyway? πŸ™‚

One of my friends was visiting from Pennsylvania. I only get to see her once a year and she asked me if I could teach her how to quilt.

We didn’t have much time cause she is leaving tomorrow. *sniff* *sniff*

So I told her I could help her make a bag to take home.

This was her first time ever using a sewing machine.

Finished product!!!!

And next week I have another teaching session with her cousin.

I don’t have to wait a year to see her.

Adventure? Challenge……yeah right!!!!

Look at what I brought home today!!! πŸ™‚

That’s a good thing right? hm…well yeah normally it would be a good thing if you didn’t know the fabric is destined for.

For all you know it could be Terri Atkinson’s Yellow Brick Road

or a simple log cabin.

or even the start of my stash.

I wish it was that simple.

This yummy fabric isn’t for an easy make-in-a-weekend sort of project.

I must ask myself, “Are any of my projects that simple?”

I seriously think I have a disease. Or a really weird magnet. Cause I am always drawn toward the most difficult quilt I can find. I can’t do the simple ones…..its not in my genetic makeup. Oh sure…I do make simple quilts…..many of them…but I think I subconsciously save those for when I really need a break, like a marathoner who needs a rest after a long race.Β  When I was fourteen I started a double wedding ring. I finished it when I was seventeen. Last December I made a whole Block of the Month in 3 weeks.

Apparently my magnet are telling me its time to dive into another challenge quilt again.

Please don’t laugh..or faint…or roll your eyes..I really need you to stay around here to give me support as I make this quilt. I honestly was contemplating not going through with this quilt. But I told myself that it’s a challenge. If I want to become a better quilter I must challenge myself.

Learning and growing hurts…..

Believe me I am already feeling the pain! It took me and my coworker 3 hours today to pick this quilt out. (by the way I was not officially “working”…its kinda impossible for me to shop at work…I must come on special days to shop. )

And apparently according to the instructions the key to this quilt is ORGANIZATION.

Ok people!! I am not organized!!! (breath in….breath out)

See this is part of my growing/learning process.

Look!!! I can be organized….I am learning!!! (we will see how long it lasts)

I will keep you posted on how this quilt is going and how well I am growing.

But if you ever see a post with just this picture

You will know that the quilt is really driving me up the wall. (oh and yes…ironically my double wedding ring is in the background)

A Blue Ribbon Winner!!

This past week our nearby County Fair was in full swing.

I managed to enter a few items in the open class barn. It was just items that I had finished this past year….a quilt, an apron and other sundry items. I wasn’t expecting much. I haven’t had a big record in my open class endeavors and because of my age I was in a huge age group.

I also entered the purse I told you that I was going to make in my last post.

It turns out that the judge must have liked it cause I got Reserved Champion! Second place in the whole clothing category!!!!

Tonight I went to go pick up my projects and I realized that I got blues in everything I entered!! That kinda made my day.

I was so impatient to use my new purse that after I finished it on Sunday, I used it Monday and Tuesday before I had to turn it in to the fair on Wednesday. I could hardly wait to get it back today. πŸ™‚ Now I can use my sparkly new purse πŸ™‚

Out with the Old

For the last two years I have carried Amy Butler’s Birdie Sling…….I love it!!! I have made two for myself and one for my mom. When I made my first one my family scoffed at me for carrying such a huge bag. Well, this past summer my mom has taken back those words. She started carrying one of mine and fell in love with it..and demanded asked kindly for a new one.

My second one is getting a little worn out and dirty

I think its about time for a new one…..

I cut it out tonight. It really is a fast and easy bag πŸ™‚

It doesn’t look like much right now but when I have time (precious commodity isn’t it?) I will sew it up. Personally I am slotting Sunday evening for that task….but life happens….only the Lord knows if I will get to it. πŸ™‚

Check back in a couple days to see if I posted a finished product!! πŸ˜€

Terrain!!! :D

My life has been hectic (nothing new huh?) but that’s partly due to the Minnesota Shop Hop! Tons of shop hoppers have stopped by the shop I work at so I have had little time at home…but its been really fun!! πŸ˜€

Anyway...Kate Spain’s new line Terrain came in yesterday!!

So far we just have the charm packs but still I couldn’t resist taking two home….not sure what I am going to do yet….thinking of designing a block for it…hmm…I love precuts..they get my creativity rolling!! πŸ˜€
